The Lawsuit: Wilmuth et al. v. Amazon.com
• In November 2023, three female employees from Amazon’s Communications & Corporate Responsibility organization filed the first-ever equal pay class action against the company.
• The women – Caroline Wilmuth, Katherine Schomer, and Erin Combs – allege that Amazon has a pattern and practice of assigning employees’ job codes and levels discriminatorily, giving preference to men. They claim this practice results in women being paid less for similar work, and fewer career opportunities for women.
• Our clients also allege that Amazon retaliated against them after they complained about discrimination and filed their lawsuit, by creating disruptive and increasingly hostile conditions intended to push them out of the company or force them to resign.
• In December 2024, a Washington federal court denied Amazon’s motion to dismiss or stay the lawsuit. Caroline hailed this as "an important step toward justice for Amazon’s unfair and unlawful treatment of us all."
